Here are a few tips to help your trip go smoothly.

Airport
· Stop at airport before your departure date to pay your departure tax. This will prevent you from waiting in long lines the day you leave.
· Show up at the airport 3 hours prior to departure, check your bags-then go to LaChoza for one last great Costa Rican meal! Return rental car. Arrive at airport for security screening 50 minutes prior to take-off. This is our last hurrah departure routine so we don't have to sit in the un-air-conditioned airport any longer than we need to.

Money
· Scotia Bank, about 2 km west of Liberia Airport, is an easy place to exchange US$ to Colones$. They also have an ATM.
· If you pay with cash, you can often get a discount vs. paying with credit card.
· Most places will accept US$ but you won't get the best exchange rate.

Weather
· 72-92 degrees year round.
· Hottest, driest months are January and February.
· During rainy season, it often will rain for a couple of hours in the late afternoon and then be done.
· Some of the best weather world-wide for arthritis and achy joints in general.
· No mosquitoes!! And very few other flying insects. Can eat outside unannoyed!
· For many people, allergies aregreatly improved.

Food
· A few foods you must try: all the fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh seafood, fried plantains, fried tico cheese, casado (typical Tico meal of rice, beans and meat).
· You can drink the water!

· We recommend at least a small SUV to help you get around more easily, especially if you plan to do some exploring.
